A five-star bed and breakfast with a vineyard attached, Takatu Lodge & Vineyard is located at the entrance to the Takatu Peninsula, a spit of land surrounded by the Pacific Ocean in the heart of North Island's Matakana Coast wine country. What owners Heather and John Forsman offer is an utterly luxurious experience on a working vineyard.
The architecturally gorgeous modern lodge is built of local wood and stone and has four spacious, very private suites. Rooms have high vaulted ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass walls that let you gaze out across the vineyards to mountains and sea beyond, huge beds and log fires. Every room has its own secluded terrace. The Forsmans are committed to sustainable viticulture practices in their vineyard. Their white wine pinot gris and merlot franc malbec are both delicious, and wine tasting is complimentary for guests.
They are also passionate about using local, organic produce in their delicious breakfasts. For lunch and dinner, there are great restaurants nearby, or they will arrange for local chefs to come to you.
